The active range of NRG series is surprisingly lightweight, as the amplifiers use modern class D technology and switched-mode power supplies. The built-in Bluetooth 5.0 receiver offers TWS (True Wireless Stereo) to quickly set up a wireless stereo system. The crossover filters are implemented in the internal DSP and include presets for optimised frequency and phase-optimised for top/sub combinations with all NRG models. The best way to get a great sound and high output is to use a top and a sub from the NRG range!
The DAP NRG-8A is an active full-range loudspeaker with a peak power of 360 watts (180 watts continuous RMS). It uses an 8” woofer and a 1” compression driver, and has an internal DSP with 4 useful modes: Contour, Flat, Speech and +Sub, which apply a loudness curve, a flat curve, a high-pass curve or a high-pass with optimised frequency and phase curve specifically for the NRG subwoofer range respectively. The compression driver is coupled to a rotatable horn with a directivity of 90° × 60°. The internal class D amplifier has a switched-mode power supply to keep the weight down and efficiency level up. The internal DSP includes a crossover for the woofer and compression driver, a 2-band limiter, a short circuit protection and thermal protection.
As well as dedicated XLR combo jacks for microphone and line-level signals, the NRG-8A has an integrated Bluetooth 5.0 receiver for playing music from your mobile phone, laptop, or other Bluetooth media player. The Bluetooth receiver features True Wireless Stereo (TWS) and can be configured to enjoy stereo sound when using a pair of NRG full-range speakers. The line output is looped through and there is an additional ‘Mix out’ output with all signals available for driving a second unit or a subwoofer, preferably from the NRG range. Separate gain controls make it easy to adjust the level of the different input signals and a master control sets the overall volume.
The sturdy, lightweight plywood cabinet has a double-angled top hat (0° and 5°), allowing you to point the cabinet downwards when mounting it on a pole. To get the most out of the NRG-8A, we recommend adding an NRG series subwoofer.
